Once again a year on since last being admitted to hospital with pancreatitis I was back in A&E on Friday with the same symptoms. These symptoms are pain in the middle of my stomach just below my ribs which radiates round into my back and doesnt go without having to make myself sick (although saying that today I have had 3 episodes and they have gone within 10-20 minutes of first arriving). I have been having the symptoms which have been increasing in frequency for 5-6 weeks now and have been to my doctors who have started me on some different medication to see if they make a difference, but on Friday I had just had enough so up I went to A&E.
After waiting over 3 hours since having my bloods taken I was called back in to be told I had raised liver enzymes and after the medical team spoke to the surgical team it was felt i may have a stone stuck in my bile duct near my liver which could be causing the pain and the raised levels! I was sent onto the Clinical Decisions Unit and told I would be given fluids an MRCP and if needed a ERCP so I prepared myself for a few nights admission!
Another few hours went by and i was told by the Consultant that nothing would get done over the weekend and that now my pain had gone (i had been waiting since 10am and it was now 6pm) I could go home and have the tests done as an outpatient. I was to eat a bland diet and await the test appointment coming through the post which had been requested urgently.
So I am now home still none the wiser of what is wrong with me! I still want to know if I have a hiatus hernia as well which im hoping will show up on the MRCP. This is an MRI scan of the gallbladder, liver and pancreatic area apparently!
I was hoping after having my gallbladder out it would put an end to the pain I have had on and off since 2011 but i guess not, but atleast going to A&E has made them look into things fast as the GP just wanted to give me more medications! I will also be reviewd by the Gastroenterology team once the tests have been done.
Thank you for reading if you got this far and please check back in a few weeks for an update on any tests 🙂 Also please let me know if anything like this has ever happened to you!
